Ways to Identify Quality Childcare
Ratios: Make sure that child-to-caregiver ratios are low.
License and training: The facility and staff should be licensed and caregivers need to have adequate experience and professional training. Credentials and reference should be available for your viewing.
Basics of health and safety: Caregivers should be trained and supportive of the basics of child health and safety.
Cleanliness: Facilities must be clean and well cared for.
Toys and games: Rooms should contain age appropriate toys, books, and games.
Activities: Children should be engaged in specific activities, not simply put in front of a television.
Feedback: Staff should be interested in your concerns and work hard to accommodate you and your child.
Comfort: Your child should seem happy and comfortable with the facility and the daycare staff.
Security: The staff should closely monitor who comes and goes from the facility.
Transportation: Caregivers should not remove your child from the facility without your knowledge and permission.
Attention: Caregivers should work individually with your child in addition to working with the whole group.
Attitude: Daycare staff should be warm, patient, and comforting and treat your child with respect.
